ITV1’s new peak-time drama Injustice, starring James Purefoy, got off to a flying start last night with a high of more than 5.5 million viewers.

The thriller, written by Anthony Horowitz (Foyle’s War), banked the all-important 9pm to 10pm ratings with 4.7 million average viewers and a 19.4% audience share.

It’s nearest competitor was BBC One’s second Case Histories, which pulled in 4.4 million average viewers and a 18% audience share during the 9pm to 10pm peak-hour.

At the same time, Channel 4’s new spin-off Embarrassing Fat Bodies peaked with over 3.2 million viewers and a 11.9% average audience share.

Meanwhile, Channel 5’s popular Hotel Inspector attracted 1.3 million average viewers and a 5.6% share, and BBC Two’s All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace picked up 804,000 viewers and a 3.3% share.

In the pre-watershed slot, ITV1’s Coronation Street managed to pip BBC One’s Eastenders to the top ratings of the night. Corrie secured a high of more than 8.7 million viewers following last week’s ‘special’; while 8.6 million peak viewers tuned in to see Eddie Moon’s (David Essex) entrance to Albert Square.
