England vs Spain: Quarter Finals Produce Highest Figures Yet

England’s encounter with Spain on Saturday generated the highest viewing figures yet in Euro’96. Average figures show that 14.7 million individuals watched the epic battle between two of the sport’s greatest countries which ended with England winning 4-2 on penalties. The enthusiasm, probably gained from the England vs Holland (14.6 million), had increases of 20% on both individuals share (83.4%) and adults share (84.1%) with an increase by 15% on men’s viewing to 89.4%.

Other average figures for the quarter finals were the Portugal/Czech Republic game (8.4 million) which produced the competitions highest audience for a non-British game so far and France/Holland generating 8.0 million. Notably the Italy/Germany group match produced 8.3 million compared to the Germany/Croatia Quarter final which produced a mere 6.8 million.

Both semi-finals will be shown simultaneously by BBC 1 and ITV on Wednesday with France/Czech Rep kicking-off at 4.00pm and England/Germany kicking-off at 7.30pm.
