API TV Wins Sports Contract

API Television (formally known as Grand Slam Sports) and one of the UK’s leading independent TV sports production companies, has been awarded two major contracts to produce live television coverage of more than 100 Major League Soccer (MLS) games in the US.

MLS has appointed API Television to supply full outside broadcast coverage of 80-100 matches during the first MLS season, which began on 6 April and runs until September 1996. The games will take place in ten cities from Boston to LA and coverage will be supplied to regional broadcasters throughout the US.

In a second deal API TV has been contracted by Univision, the national Spanish-language cable station, to provide live coverage of 26 MLS matches.

Ron Allison, Chairman of API TV comments: “These new business wins follow our successful role as part of the broadcast team for the 1994 World Cup and will complement our existing work in the US, which includes television coverage of 20 national team matches each year.”

The company will also be part of the Euro ’96 broadcast production team in the UK, televising games which can be seen on ITV and BBC (Newsline 29/01).
