MTV Signs Mountain Bike Deal
MTV has signed a new agreement which will provide it with access to the Grundig/UCI Mountain Bike World Cup 1996.
MTV will be recording programming at Mountain Bike World Cup events around Europe as well as organising on the ground activities and joint marketing opportunities. MTV Europe is the only music television channel with rights to broadcast footage of the World Cup.
Chris Stephenson, Marketing Senior Vice President of MTV Europe, commented: “With this new agreement, MTV continues its commitment to bring Europe coverage of the most extreme sports. Mountain biking is becoming increasingly popular throughout Europe and our association with the Grundig/UCI Mountain Bike World Cup provides the perfect opportunity to bring the sport to the attention of MTV’s vast pan-European audience.”
MTV’s activities include on-air spots beginning this week; promoting forthcoming World Cup events on MTV; MTV signage on all World Cup events and an event to be staged by MTV at a key European race location. Coverage of this MTV event and selected World Cup meetings will be broadcast as part of MTV Europe’s ‘Weekend on Wheels’ programming in October 1996.
