Viewers Find Daewoo Ad Offensive

The ITC has reported that 34 viewers found the Daewoo ad which featured an ultrasound scan of an embryo in the womb developing into a car offensive.

Some viewers who had recently lost babies found the ultrasound images distressing and others considered this to be the insensitive use of a potentially worrying procedure in order to market a commercial product. The ITC did not believe there were grounds for banning the ad however and so the complaints were not upheld.

Other complaints in the ITC’s March report related to ads for the Regular Army, which viewers found too aggressive (upheld), and for the Renault Laguna, which some viewers believed condoned dangerous driving (not upheld but guidance given).
