Classic FM Demonstrates Commitment To Digital Broadcasting

Classic FM is leading a band of broadcasters and industry associations in a Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) experiment. As part of its commitment to the future of digital broadcasting, Classic FM will launch the venture in Birmingham and hopes that it will demonstrate the potential and opportunities of DAB (see Newsline 07/03).

Sir Peter Michael, Chairman of Classic FM said: “In launching this DAB venture, Classic FM is meeting the challenge of taking digital radio systems into the next century, allowing higher quality and greater flexibility than is currently possible. We now look forward to hearing the experimental transmission and evaluating reactions to it.”

In this experiment Classic FM leads a consortium of GWR, Virgin Radio, Heart FM, Eddystone Marconi, DTI, the Radio Authority and British Telecom . The trial service runs from July 15 during the Radio Academy’s Radio Festival with trial services in London from August until next Spring.
