TV Overnights: BBC News hits 7m+ viewers for second night in a row

BBC OneBBC News achieved the highest audience of the whole day in its 10pm time slot with 7.6 million viewers. As riots spread outside of the capital, the BBC’s ratings rocketed, surpassing both Eastenders (BBC One) and Emmerdale (ITV1).

The BBC‘s News At Ten has achieved particularly high ratings for the last few days in response to the riots. However, despite also gaining viewers, ITV’s News at Ten has not been close to matching the BBC‘s coverage, which has surpassed seven millions viewers two days in a row while ITV achieved 2.8 million today.

Elsewhere, Eastenders performed well as normal, achieving a viewing figure of 7.4 million and a 35% share of the audience. Like wise, ITV’s soap Emmerdale gained the channel’s highest daily ratings of 5.3 million.

A revamped DIY SOS: The big build, in BBC One’s prime time slot, achieved an audience of 5.3 million and contributed again to BBC One’s ratings dominance of the last week.
