Tabloid Price War?

Tabloid Price War?

A summer price war was sparked off when today’s editions of The Sun and The Daily Mirror appeared on newsstands priced at only 10p.

A spokesman from The Daily Mirror, which is normally priced at 30p, told Newsline: “It is a one-off offer for our readers.” He refused to comment on The Daily Mirror’s pricing strategy but said that special reductions were likely to happen again throughout the summer.

News International, who own The Sun and The Times, confirmed that the offer was one-off but gave no indication of the offer happening again. This follows the summer price slash of The Times every Monday.

Today’s price reductions could result in even more conflict in the near future as the two tabloids battle for more readership.
