ITV Reveals Formula One Plan
The commercial package for ITV’s exclusive Formula One coverage in 1997 was revealed at their conference for advertisers and sponsors on Monday 22 July.
Mick Desmond, an ITV Marketing Group representative said: “We’ve undertaken careful and extensive research into how best to balance the needs of the viewer with the commercial expectations of the advertiser.”
ITV have planned five commercial breaks of two minutes during live coverage which, ITV stress, will remain flexible. A race controller will decide when to switch to a commercial break and if any major action is missed, it will be replayed after the break.
Marcus Plantin, ITV network director commented: “Even the BBC records and plays the action it misses when the director is on another camera slot.”
ITV hope to attract over five million viewers from the BBC which will boost viewing figures for Men, ABC1 Men and 16-34 Men on Sunday afternoons.
Coverage will include a programmes featuring the qualifying session on Saturday, highlights, pre and post race programmes, profiles, news and in-depth analysis.
