Videotron and UK Gold have signed a new deal which retains UK Gold and incorporates the launch of UK Living on the cable company’s network.
As previously reported (Newsline 11/01/96), a disagreement between Videotron and UK Gold had threatened to dissolve their partnership. The row centred on Videotron’s insistence that UK Gold be moved to a different ‘tier’, meaning that the channel would be an add-on rather than a compulsory channel. UK Gold seems to have won, since it remains part of the Videotron standard cable package.
UK Living, which reaches 2 million adults weekly, will be launched in Hampshire by April and in London by September. UK Gold, which screens British classics, reaches 4 million adults weekly.
