WPP’s Profits Up 33%
Marketing services group WPP has announced record profits of £113.7 million for 1995, up 33% from £85.3 million in 1994. Other results include earnings per share up 40% to 9.1p from 6.5p; turnover up 9% to £6.553 billion; revenues up 9% to £1.555 billion; operating profit up over 24% to £139.2 million; and net cash of £71 million at 31 December 1995 against £38 million net debt in 1994.
In terms of sectors, media advertising revenue accounted for 55% of the total group’s revenue, and market research 15.8%. Advertising operating profit as a percentage of the total group was 71% and market research 13%.
Combined media advertising revenues at J. Walter Thompson and Ogilvy & Mather rose by 11.5%. JWT generated net new billings of over £201 million and O&M £134 million. The Group’s market research businesses continued their strong growth with gross profit rising almost 10%.
