TV Overnights: The soaps rule Monday night TV

The BBC One drama New Tricks topped audience ratings last night as it peaked with 7.9 million viewers, holding an average of 29.7% of the audience share before the show ended at 10pm.

Over on ITV1 Ant & Dec returned with their new game-show Red or Black?, which averaged 4.7 million viewers for both installments, a loss of over a million viewers compared to the opening show that aired Saturday night with 6.1 million. Celebrity Big Brother on Channel  5 averaged 2.2 million viewers with an audience share of 12.2% at 10pm.

The soaps steadily reigned last night as BBC One’s EastEnders gained the highest average audience of the night with 7.6 million, while ITV1’s Emmerdale averaged 7 million viewers followed by Coronation Street with a healthy average of 7.2 million at 9pm.
