TV Overnights: BBC’s Frozen Planet dominates ratings

The second episode of BBC One’s much-talked about Frozen Planet documentary series peaked with a high of 8.4 million viewers last night.

The BBC show dominated the evening’s ratings, securing 31.4% of the audience share during the 9pm to 10pm peak hour.

At the earlier time of 7.30pm, BBC One’s Waterloo Road secured a steady average of 4.7 million viewers, while over on ITV1 Emmerdale averaged 6.1 million viewers at 7pm, holding just under 27% of the audience share.

The football took up ITV1’s evening slot, airing the UEFA Champions League from 7.30pm to 10pm. The Manchester City vs Villareal match peaked at four million viewers at 8pm but averaged 3.1 million viewers overall (and a 13% audience share).

Following this on ITV2, The Only Way Is Essex attracted an average of 1.1 million viewers at 10pm.

Over on Channel 4, Grand Designs averaged 2.5 million viewers at 9pm, gaining 10.3% of the audience share. This was followed by drama Top Boy, its penultimate episode peaking at the start of the 10pm slot with 1.4 million viewers and averaging one million throughout the show.

Channel 5’s Dangerous Driving School hit a high of 1.4 million viewers at 8pm, while the 10pm slot saw Big Brother average 1.1 million viewers.
