On Demand Confirm Warner Deal
The On Demand Management (ODM) cable consortium finally confirmed yesterday that it has signed a pay-per-view movie deal with Warner Brothers International Television. The ODM consortium presently comprises Telewest, NTL, General Cable and Diamond Cable and is set to launch the UK’s first cable operated pay-per-view service. The Warner deal gives them the non-exclusive rights to all theatrical film distributed by Warner Bros. in the UK.
Yesterday BSkyB announced a similar deal also with Warner (subscribers see BSkyB PPV Movies Confirmed). These developments follow speculation of Sky’s potentially weakened position in the light of the ODM deal (subscribers see On Demand Approach Warner Bros. Deal).
The ODM pay-per-view service is set to launch in January 1998.
