TV Overnights: Dancing on Ice skates away with 8m viewers

ITV1’s popular Dancing on Ice secured the prime time ratings last night with more than eight million peak viewers.

The first of the two shows, which saw the remaining 13 contestants perform together, attracted over 6.6 million average viewers and a 25.9% audience share on ITV1 and a further 455,000 average viewers and a 1.8% share on ITV1 HD.

However, ITV1 lost the peak ratings to BBC One at 8pm. The second episode of Call the Midwife with Vanessa Redgrave and Miranda Hart won a high of more than 9.1 million viewers in the 8pm to 9pm slot, before the new two part drama Birdsong, which banked over 6.4 million peak viewers.

On ITV1, Wild at Heart picked up a lower 5.9 million average viewers between 8.30pm and 9.30pm, before the Dancing on Ice results show pulled in 5.4 million viewers and a 21.1% share.

Earlier on in the day, BBC Two’s Live Snooker coverage proved to be a hit among viewers – securing more than 2.2 million peak viewers and a 10.6% average audience share to claim the peak ratings from 2pm to 4.45pm.

On Saturday, BBC One dominated the ratings with just two small gaps. The channel’s Breakfast show banked the top ratings in the morning, followed by Saturday Kitchen Live. Football Focus scored a high of 1.8 million viewers at midday, before the Masters Snooker achieved a peak audience of two million viewers.

In the prime time slots, The Magicians pulled in 4.5 million peak viewers; The National Lottery 6.3 million; Casualty 5.8 million; and Live at the Apollo 3.1 million.

Match of the Day, meanwhile, banked over 4.7 million peak viewers in the late night post-10pm slot.

ITV1’s Saturday night line-up saw Harry Hill’s TV Burp win 3.9 million peak viewers; Take Me Out 4.5 million; The Talent Show Story two million; and The Jonathan Ross Show 2.4 million.
