The rugby union Five Nations championship is to be sponsored for the first time. Lloyds TSB today announced a three-year deal which will see the banking group give its name to the 1999 World Cup as well as the Five Nations tournament that year and 12 months later.
It also means that Lloyds TSB will sponsor England, Wales and Ireland’s home internationals in the 1998 Five Nations and the European finals of the World Cup qualifying tournament next Autumn.
Heineken yesterday announced that it would be sponsoring ITV’s forthcoming coverage of the 1998 Five Nations (see yeasterday’s Heineken To Continue ITV Rugby Sponsorship).
