Radio Authority Fine Four Stations

The Radio Authority has published details of its Quarterly Bulletin for the second quarter of 1997.

Four commercial radio stations were fined following complaints received by the Authority during April and June of 1997. The stations fined were:

  • LLeicester Sound 105.4 FM for repeated breaches of their ‘promise of performance’ (£5,000).
  • Spectrum Radio (Greater London) for broadcasting two programmes which contravened the Authority codes on impartialiy (£5,000).
  • Piccadilly 1152 for broadcasting two programmes which were found to be offensive, one of which was about the deaths of five Salford teenagers (£10,000).
  • Red Rose 999 (Preston) for a breach of its ‘promise of performance’ (£1,000).

… The Radio Authority is inviting suggestions on draft revised guideline on the way in which public interest tests under the Broadcasting Act 1996 are conducted.
