Apple iPad 3 launch – the rumours…

Apple is due to announce the new iPad at an event in San Francisco at 6pm today (UK time).

It is thought the company will launch its new iPad (the iPad 3, iPad HD or iPad 2S?!) and perhaps an updated Apple TV set-top box.

The rumours about Apple’s latest announcement include in-app purchases within catalogues, such as the IKEA catalogue app – potentially allowing iPad users to buy products directly from an app using their iTunes account.

The latest iPad is also expected to have an upgraded camera, a new display – possibly a ‘retina’ display, capable of full 1080p HD – as well as a faster processor (with an A6 chip).

A new smart case is also likely – with the same magnetic protection but for both the front and back cover.

It has also been suggested that Apple will use the event to announce its improved Apple TV product. However, it is unlikely to be the full Apple TV product, which is expected towards the end of the year.

4G connectivity and a mini-pad is also suggested by The Telegraph.
