January To June1997 ABCs – Men’s Lifestyle Sector
This was a positive circulation period for the Men’s sector with the majority of the titles seeing an augmentation in their sales. Of the Men’s Lifestyle sector, Emap Metro’s FHM once again achieved a massive circulation increase resulting in a year on year increase of 323,378 copies or 178%. This title has seen a steady rise in circulation since 1990 and since Jan-Jun 1995 has increased its sales by over 400,000 copies. IPC’s Loaded also sees another steady circulation growth with an increase of 52% (141,465 copies) and like FHM this title goes from strength to strength and had yet to see its circulation decrease in an audit period. Other notable increases in this sector include Men’s Health and Maxim which both achieved an increase of 42% and 62% respectively.

Of the titles not faring so well, Arena suffered a decrease of 17.5% (16,406 copies), Esquire underwent a loss of 13% year on year and Face magazine lost 3.5% (4,032 copies).
