US: New TV ratings systems introduced

The American government has agreed a new, voluntary TV ratings system with the major networks and cable stations, which toughens the existing regulations by supplementing existing ratings with an L (for offensive language), S (for sex) and V (for violence) to be flashed on the screen for 15 seconds before each programme. The Screen Actors Guild and the Directors Guild of America are considering taking legal action against the move, which they describe as inhibiting free speech.
