Carlton Food Network and Carlton Select are regarded as “stimulating and refreshing” and can be a contributory factor in a viewer’s decision to take up cable TV, according to research carried out for Carlton by Terry Watkins Research.
The chefs featured on CFN were found to be universally popular and though terrestrial food programmes remain an important source of information, a number of respondents misattributed them to CFN. Carlton Select is apparently regarded as the most credible of all the re-run channels, with viewers citing the “erratic quality” and “terrestrial cast-off” nature of rival channels.
Instant recognition of Carlton Select programmes and the popularity of celebrity chefs on CFN were found to be key factors in both channels’ success.
