The Mirror Group and Press Association plan to add yet another vice to the Internet through the introduction of online betting. The service, ‘SportingLife.com’, will take bets on all sports and is believed to be the first of its kind in the UK. Punters can use debit cards to place their wagers.
…Also anyone with an email address will be eligible for a free news service provided by the mobile phone company Cellnet. The service, called Genie, gathers in reports from a number of sources including the Press Association and Reuters and sends them straight to your inbox. The same information can be sent to your digital phone if you are a Cellnet customer.
…Some new additions to ‘Netland’ this week include Matchfacts (http://www.matchfacts.com), a weekly footy magazine which covers every team, every game and every goal scored in the UK. FoodNet (http://www.foodnet.co.uk) gives you the chance to email a celebrity chef and find or recommend a restaurant. For budget holiday seekers there is the relaunch of Emap Online’s Bargainholidays.com (http://www.bargainholidays.com). The Bargainholidays service gives you access to the latest, last-minute bargains prices and departures of 70,000 UK holidays and flights to Europe.
