Results for the nine months ending 31/03/97 show BSkyB with pre tax profits up 21% to £215 million – an increase of £38 million. Turnover now stands at £913 million, up 24% on the same period last year – 84% of this total coming from subscription revenues, with advertising now contributing 11%.
Total paying subscribers were up 121,000 in the quarter to 6.2 million, with net DTH growth of 44,000.
Operating profit was up 17% to £260 million, whilst operating costs were 27% higher due to ‘strong investment in crucial area of programming’.
