ITV to launch micropayments system this summer

ITV is set to make 1,000 hours of archive content available to rent this summer when it launches its online micropayments system.

Fru Hazlitt, ITV’s managing director of commercial and online, revealed the launch at a conference earlier today.

A pay version of ITV Player is expected to be available by the end of the August or early September. Users will be able to pay for content more than 30 days old via a number of different pricing models, with a single programme thought to cost around 50p for a month, while a whole series could set users back between £2 to £4.

All purchased content will be ad free, according to reports.

ITV is also expected to premiere new episodes of dramas, such as Downton Abbey, on the service.
