Channel 4 picks Black in Business winners

Channel 4 has announced four winners for its Black in Business initiative, in partnership with Lloyds.
The winning businesses are: London fashion label Alonuko, London Jamaican patty maker Flake Bake, West Midlands plant-based haircare brand Flora & Curl and haircare company Nylah’s Naturals, also based in the West Midlands.
Now in its second year, Black in Business supports black entrepreneurs with business mentoring and TV advertising.
Each winner will receive £150,000 worth of airtime across Channel 4’s network beginning in July, and will be aided in creating their own TV ad.
Senior executives from both Channel 4 and Lloyds will provide advice and support to each business owner, tailored to their specific needs.
Black in Business was launched in 2023 following research from Channel 4 Sales that found 56% of black-owned companies only receive funding once they had already grown a successful business.
Separately, Lloyds’ Black. British. In Business and Proud report in 2022 revealed that 84% of black business owners have been discriminated against.
Christopher Remie, commercial development lead at Channel 4 Sales, said: “Our selected businesses excelled in showcasing their strong products and readiness to scale through engaging presentations.
“They were chosen for their potential to thrive with TV advertising, leveraging its reach to drive growth and connect with new customers.”
Elyn Corfield, CEO, business and commercial banking, at Lloyds Banking Group, added: “Creativity and resilience are key to running a successful business, so we look forward to seeing these winners thrive and inspire others.
“Whether you’re planning to turn a side hustle into a viable business or looking to grow an existing one, our black entrepreneurs programme is committed to supporting those ambitions and helping Britain prosper.”
