The Times launches new sports app

The Times and The Sunday Times have launched a new app solely dedicated to the papers’ sporting coverage.

The Times Sport App – the first of its kind for a UK newspaper – will contain breaking sports news, live match commentary as well as insight, analysis and articles from journalists including Mike Atherton, Lawrence Dallaglio and Matthew Syed.

The app will also include highlights of all England’s home cricket matches, alongside the existing highlights for the Aviva Premiership Rugby and the FA Cup.

“The launch of Times Sport is another example of why The Times and Sunday Times are the home of quality sports coverage,” said Alan Hunter, the head of digital for the newsbrands.

“Our unrivalled journalism will now be enhanced with near-live clips and highlights from a range of sports. Nobody else provides such a complete sporting package. During the mouth-watering summer of sport we have to look forward to, I am confident that Times Sport will be the only place to keep up with all the action.”

Currently, The Times and The Sunday Times, which are both locked behind a paywall, have 143,000 paying readers.
