Mediatel News’ Michaela Jefferson promoted to news editor

Following the announcement that Mediatel News’ long-standing editor has stepped down, its publisher Mediatel Group is delighted to announce the promotion of its reporter to news editor.

Michaela Jefferson steps up as the online platform undergoes a team restructuring following David Pidgeon’s departure on July 3.

In her current position, Jefferson is responsible for reporting news as well as leading on features and industry profile articles. As news editor, Jefferson will expand her role to manage the delivery of the many opinion editorial and analysis articles published daily on the free-to-access platform; managing the roster of columnists; and taking control over aspects of the editorial strategy.

“Michaela is a hugely talented journalist and a truly gifted writer. Her quick and nuanced grasp of the many complex issues that run through the media, tech and advertising sectors also mark her out as rising talent,” said Pidgeon, who left the role after eight years last week.

“Her promotion to news editor is well deserved and comes at a time when Mediatel News is seeking to evolve – seeking new audiences, developing new editorial standards and helping to make the industry it serves a better informed and more progressive place. I’ve no doubt Michaela will play an important role in delivering on those lofty aims.”

An expanded editorial team will also be announced in due course, however, Mike Fletcher today joins Mediatel News as contributing editor to support Jefferson, bringing with him 20 years of experience.

A former editor at Haymarket Media Group, Fletcher has written extensively about media and advertising trends and developed digital strategies for clients, and will work alongside Jefferson in the new-look editorial team.

Commenting on the news, Jefferson said: “Over the past eight years, David has enhanced Mediatel News into a respected and trusted industry publication with a reputation for intelligent and hard-hitting analysis and opinion.

“As sad as I am to see him go, I’m hugely looking forward to picking up the reins and continuing his work, while helping to take the platform in new and interesting directions with Mike’s support.”

Meanwhile, Steven Scaffardi, Head of Mediatel Events, commented: “Over the past two years, Michaela has played a huge role working alongside David to position Mediatel News at the forefront of expert opinion, intelligent debate and in-depth analysis of all the major stories affecting the media industry.

“Whilst it is obviously very sad to lose David, we are incredibly lucky to have someone like Michaela who understands the values and the vision of what we are trying to achieve, and she will now become increasingly more integral to our plans for the future success of the platform.”

Greg Grimmer, CEO of Mediatel Group, added: “Mediatel News continues to go from strength to strength in terms of reach, reputation and respect. I have every confidence that Michaela will continue this momentum and augment our written, video and event content.”
