TV audience data delayed due to 'abnormally high' viewing for State Funeral

The publication of audience data for UK television yesterday has been delayed due to “abnormally high levels of viewing for The State Funeral”.

The overnights data, which produces a snapshot of the previous night’s BARB viewing data, is usually published the following morning.

But a spokesperson for TRP Research said: “Kantar Media have informed us that there will be a delay in delivery of today’s BARB data files due to abnormally high levels of viewing for The State Funeral.

“They do not currently have an estimate for when data will be delivered.”

The spokesperson said the reports will be sent “as soon as data becomes available”. Overnights data does not include consolidated viewing from catch-up services.

Live coverage of the Queen’s funeral was aired across BBC One, BBC News and iPlayer throughout the day, with ITV and Sky also broadcasting the event.

The viewing figures are expected to eclipse any other live television event in UK history.

England’s World Cup victory in 1966 is currently the most-watched live event on UK TV, with 32.3 million viewers, closely followed by the Funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1997. Both were simulcast on the BBC and ITV.
