Washington Post managing editor Kat Downs Mulder is leaving to become SVP and general manager of Yahoo News.
As GM, Downs Mulder will oversee global products, editorial and strategy for a unified Yahoo News, including the Yahoo homepage, news, entertainment and lifestyle content. She will report to president of home ecosystem, Matt Sanchez.
Downs Mulder worked at The Post for 14 years, most recently serving as chief product officer and managing editor. Her team included visual and audio journalism, audience development, emerging news products, curation and distribution, along with the product and design teams focused on the development of The Post’s website, app, subscriptions, and internal tools.
Her move to leave The Post comes as other outlets have characterized the publication as suffering from internal frustration. Infighting among staff members spilled out into the public earlier this summer.
