The Boston Globe names NPR news chief Barnes as its next editor

The Boston Globe has named National Public Radio (NPR) news chief Nancy Barnes as its next editor.

She will become the first woman to serve as editor of the paper in its 150-year history.

Before coming to NPR in 2018, Barnes worked as the top editor at The Houston Chronicle and Minneapolis Star Tribune.

She decided to “pursue some other opportunities” away from NPR in September following a reshuffle of the organization’s top ranks.

Barnes will begin at The Globe on February 1. She succeeds Brian McGrory, who announced he would be stepping down after 10 years in September.
