Vox Media formally bans fossil fuel advertisements
In brief

Vox Media has formally banned fossil fuel advertisements as part of a broader set of policies and initiatives the publisher is taking to address the climate crisis.

The move makes it the second major global publisher to cease accepting advertisements from companies that extract fossil fuels, following The Guardian, which instituted its ban in 2020.

Vox Media says it stopped accepting fossil fuel ads at the beginning of 2021, but has now formalised the policy.

The publisher also unveiled this week it has launched a carbon-neutral ad product within its ad marketplace and that it will also seek to increase its editorial focus around sustainability.
