Kerrang! Rolls-Out New Online Radio Service

Emap’s fledgling Kerrang! 105.2 is attempting to extend its weekly reach with the launch of a new online radio service based on its existing Legends show.

The West Midlands-based rock music station, which launched back in June, is rolling-out Kerrang! Radio Legends this week as an online spin-off dedicated to playing round-the-clock classic tracks from the last few decades.

The station, which is the latest in a long line of Kerrang! brand extensions, will be available at www.kerrangradio.co.uk and will feature music from bands such as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones.

Commenting on the launch, Kerrang! 105.2’s programme director, Andrew Jeffries, said: “Legends has been a great success on Kerrang! 105.2 so we have responded to the massive fan-base by providing them with a dedicated service featuring this awesome catalogue.”

He added: “This is a major step forward in the evolution and development of the Kerrang! Radio Network. While we continue providing all genres of rock for our Kerrang! 105.2 listeners – this is an extra service for classic rock fans and lets listeners outside of the West Midlands get a taster of what they are missing.”

Earlier this year Emap announced a major expansion of Kerrang! into northern England through the company’s seven wholly-owned DAB digital multiplexes. The move delivered the station to Yorkshire, the North East, North West and Scotland, in addition to London and the West Midlands (see Emap Expands Kerrang! Into Northern DAB Regions).

The rock station had also been running trial broadcasts in Newcastle-upon-Tyne using a temporary RSL licence and recently announced its intention to bid for the new FM licence in Manchester. The growth is part of Emap’s strategy to extend its national radio brands and equip them for localised content.
