Media Distillery says its sports content discovery suite can boost viewing time

Media Distillery believes its recently launched Sports Engagement Suite will help broadcasters and streamers increase engagement with sports content.

Sports Engagement Suite is an AI-powered platform that makes it easier to find sports content, even in long-form broadcasts.

Crucially, this does not require additional manual effort from media companies.

The suite comprises four core features, the first of which is ‘Match Highlights’. This automatically generates video summaries of sports matches, ready within minutes after the final whistle.

The first sports to benefit will be football, starting in time for the FIFA World Cup, then ice hockey and basketball.

The highlights’ editorial style is configurable, and editorial teams retain control via a dashboard.

‘Key Moments’ is the second feature. This detects key in-game moments in real time, enabling viewers who join mid-match to instantly catch up on what they missed.

Media Distillery says this capability will drive higher engagement throughout the broadcast.

Third, ‘Sports Chapters’ provides AI-generated chapter markers, complete with descriptive titles and summaries, to make long-form sports broadcasts more navigable.

No spoilers

The chapters allow viewers to jump directly to the sport, match, or moment they care about, without showing spoilers.

“Sports chapters are particularly valuable for complex formats, such as multi-sport events or tournaments with multiple matches played sequentially, where viewers need to quickly find the right segment within long broadcasts,” Media Distillery explains.

Finally, ‘Shoulder Content’ extends engagement beyond the live event by tagging and surfacing related content, such as pre- and post-match interviews, line-up announcements, press conferences, and expert analyses.

This makes it much easier for fans to discover content about their favourite athlete, team, or league. “This is content they would otherwise miss out on,” the vendor suggests.

Roland Sars, CEO of Media Distillery (pictured), says: “Sports has become the new battleground for viewer loyalty. Platforms are investing billions in rights – but without the right experience, that investment underdelivers.

“Our goal is simple: help every fan find the moments they care about instantly, on any platform. That’s how sports rights translate into real engagement and retention.”
