Mail Metro Media’s Padelfest returns to support the British Heart Foundation

Mail Metro Media’s Padelfest charity event is set to return this year after raising over £40,000 last September in support of the British Heart Foundation.

The padel tournament’s second annual event is slated for 9 September and will be held once again at Padel Social Club in Earl’s Court.

In addition to the round robin-style tournament, the charity event will provide music, BBQ and refreshments served throughout the afternoon.

Up to 32 teams can pay to enter, with proceeds once again going to support the British Heart Foundation. Mail Metro Media is also soliciting brands to get involved in sponsorship opportunities for the event.

Last year, more than 150 players and spectators attended, with WPP Media’s Wavemaker taking home the trophy over second-place Paddy Power.

This year, representatives from agencies WPP, OMD and Zenith, as well as audio and OOH giant Global, have already registered to play.

Padel is a racket sport, typically played in doubles, with the same scoring system as tennis albeit with a number of rule differences. For example, courts have walls that balls can be played off, similar to squash.

The event is spearheaded by Mail Metro Media’s chief revenue officer Dom Williams (pictured, below), a padel enthusiast who picked up the sport while recovering from a heart attack four years ago.

Williams has credited the British Heart Foundation for helping with his aftercare and reinvigorating his confidence.

Apart from providing services including free heart health information, a helpline, CPR training, and placing defibrillators in public spaces, the charity also funds various cardiovascular research efforts.

“Following the inspiration and pride we took from last year’s inaugural Padelfest, we are committed to making this year’s event bigger and better to raise even more funds for our friends at the British Heart Foundation, who do such amazing lifesaving work,” Williams told The Media Leader.

“The support we received from our industry partners and friends was overwhelming and I can’t wait to get back on the court with everyone again in September.”
