Yospace helps broadcasters use overlay, squeezeback and L-banner ads at scale

The dynamic ad insertion (DAI) specialist Yospace has released Ad Presentation, its solution to enable broadcasters to implement non-linear ad formats within existing streaming workflows, and therefore at scale.

Ad Presentation supports ad formats being standardised by the IAB Tech Lab’s Ad Format Hero initiative, including pause ads, overlays, squeezebacks, and L-banners.

Tim Sewell, CEO at Yospace, believes the non-linear formats will open up new ad inventory for broadcasters and offer greater flexibility for advertisers.

“We believe the combination of this standards-based approach combined with the ease of implementation offered by our Ad Presentation solution will unlock significant incremental demand for our broadcaster customers,” he stresses.

The Ad Presentation solution works across live, VOD and FAST, whether content is delivered using Server-Side Ad Insertion (SSAI) or Server-Guided Ad Insertion (SGAI).

Broadcasters can unlock the new formats across their entire device portfolio without creating time-consuming, device-specific implementations. Existing Yospace customers only need a simple plug-in.

Demonstrated at IBC

Yospace will demonstrate the new capabilities at IBC2026 in Amsterdam.

Yospace believes the new formats will help brands align advertising with the context within programmes. A cool, thirst-quenching drink ad could be placed alongside a scene of a hot summer’s day, for example.

QR codes can be generated at the device level for each user, for use in ads, and Yospace believes this will improve attribution of outcomes to advertising exposure. “This provides a direct link that advertisers highly value between ad spend and sales,” the company explains.

Yospace’s real-time device intelligence ensures that only data that can be rendered correctly on the end-user device is delivered. It dynamically assesses player and device capabilities.

“This device-aware approach preserves the viewer experience, broadcaster trust, and advertiser outcomes by ensuring that viewers see only advertising of the highest technical quality, regardless of how they are watching,” Yospace comments.

While the ability to implement non-linear ads has existed for some time, there has never been a universal mechanism to trade, deliver, and measure them across the full spectrum of devices, Yospace says.

Removing complexity

“The barrier hasn’t been the formats themselves, but the complexity of deploying them consistently at scale, with monetisation requirements across multiple devices and endpoints resulting in labour-intensive, bespoke implementations.

“This challenge led to the creation of the IAB Tech Lab’s Ad Format Hero project in 2024. This set out to identify emerging CTV formats with the greatest potential for industry-wide adoption and establish common standards around them.”

Sewell adds: “For the first time, thanks to the work of the IAB, broadcasters and streamers can offer advertisers high-quality standardised non-linear ad formats no matter what, and how, the end viewer is watching.”

Yospace is part of RTL Group’s adtech unit. Its customers include FOX, Tubi, Allente, ITV, M6, RTL, Telenor, Telia, TV4, Nine, and Seven West Media.

The company’s DAI technology has helped customers monetise seven Olympic Games, six FIFA World Cups, and 44 Grand Slam tennis tournaments. The company manages 2,000+ live channels and stitches over 10bn advertisements per month.
