Adshel Promotes Irish Commercial Director As Sales Head

Outdoor advertising contractor Adshel has announced the appointment of Rob Atkinson as sales director, taking charge of national and regional sales at the nation’s largest 6-sheet advertising firm.

The move will see Atkinson move from Ireland, where he has been the company’s commercial director since 2003. The new director’s commercial sales experience includes 13 years at Associated Newspapers, including a stint as head of newspaper sales at the Mail on Sunday.

Commenting on the appointment, Julie France, managing director of Adshel, said: “I am delighted that Rob is joining us. His commercial experience and knowledge of the media industry will be invaluable as we look to develop the Adshel sales proposition still further.”

Adshel currently offers advertisers 65% of all 6-sheet advertising in the UK, with a dominant force in 14 of the nation’s 20 largest cities.

The move will also see Atkinson take responsibility for Adshel’s point of sale opportunities in Sainsbury’s and Somerfield supermarkets, Adshel Connect’s phone kiosk sites, poster sites in over 60 shopping centres, youth advertising in universities and airport advertising at Birmingham International Airport.

Atkinson’s promotion replaces Adam Butterworth, who has become sales director of Adshel in Australia.

The company recently secured the UK’s largest shopping centre advertising deal, worth £10 million with Prudential Property Investment Managers. The deal give the company control of 6-sheet posters in 19 major shopping malls across the country, including in the Arndale centre in Manchester and the Causeway centre in Bristol (see Adshel Secures UK’s Largest Shopping Centre Contract).
