Mizz Celebrates Nearly Twenty Years With Bumper Edition

IPC Media has announced plans to celebrate the five hundredth issue of its weekly teen magazine Mizz with the publication of a bumper, party-themed edition.

The special edition, which goes on sale later this week with the usual £1.60 cover price, includes an interview with Jamelia, a pop souvenir poster of Peter Andre and a 16-page Spooky Special pull-out printed upside down and bound into the centre of the magazine.

Commenting on the initiative, Mizz editor, Sharon Christal, said: “It’s a tremendous achievement and what better way to celebrate our 500th birthday issue with extra pages of added value, including a free set of mini tarot cards and a horoscope special. When the vote was put to our readers on who should grace our special cover, the team pulled out all the stops to deliver their wishes.”

IPC Media recently launched a special summer edition of Mizz for its core readership of girls aged between 10 and 14. The 132-page special features a mix of celebrity gossip, fashion, beauty, horoscopes and quizzes, as well as competitions, entertainment and food tips for girls during the summer holidays (see IPC Launches Mizz Summer Special For Teenage Girls).

The latest ABC results for the six months to December 2003 show that Mizz has been hard hit by increased competition in the notoriously unpredictable teenage magazine sector. The title saw circulation decline by 22.6% year on year to 100,298 as it fought to compete against the likes of Sneak and CosmoGirl!.
The title looks set to face further competition after Hachette Filipacchi revealed that its teen title ELLEgirl will be published on a monthly basis from February 2004 in response to demand from readers and advertisers (see Hachette To Take ELLEgirl Monthly In The New Year).
