Capital Secures Deal To Promote Spider-Man Release

Capital Radio Group has secured an innovative deal with Columbia TriStar films to promote the release of the new Spider-Man 2 flim to around 10 million listeners a week via the Hit 40 UK chart show.

The deal takes advantage of a new package that gives advertisers a week-long national radio presence by providing brand mentions in 4,500 Hit 40 UK trailers on radio stations across the UK, as well as a full promotion on the regular Sunday show.

The Spider-Man 2 campaign will promote the film’s release date and drive listeners online to www.hit40uk.com to sample a special game created by Capita Design. Listeners will also be given the chance to win holidays to New York PlayStation 2 games and other film-related merchandise.

Commenting on the deal, Zia George from Capital Radio Group said: “The release of Spider-Man 2 has given Hit 40 UK the opportunity to demonstrate what fantastic work can be done across all Hit 40 UK’s platforms with an imaginative client and a talented design and production team. The DJs are really excited about the promotion itself and we hope this leads to further collaborations with Columbia TriStar Films.”

Hit 40 UK claims the be the largest music property in the UK, reaching more than 113 radio stations across the country each Sunday. The show is presented by Katy Hill and Simon Hirst, who took over from veteran DJ Neil Fox in June after more than a decade (see Foxy To Leave Hit 40 After More Than A Decade).

Last year Woolworths was signed as the multimillion sponsor of the Hit 40 UK, in what is thought to be the biggest sponsorship deal in British radio history. The two-year agreement, which was signed with Capital Radio Group’s commercial division, gives the Hit 40 an unrivalled presence on the high-street, with in-store branding appearing in all 827 Woolworths and Woolworths Big W stores (see Woolworths Signed As New Chart Show Sponsor).
