Telegraph Kicks Off Fantasy Football Marketing Push

The Daily Telegraph has announced a raft of marketing activities, to begin next weekend, promoting the newspaper’s twelfth year of Fantasy Football.

Among the planned promotions will be a national television campaign, outdoor advertising, in-store radio spots and a BUPA sponsored Fantasy Football guide.

The campaign’s TV element will run on Channel 4 and Five throughout August, while the in-store radio spots will be heard in 48 Moto Service Stations and 267 Allsports stores. Posters with the strapline “Fever Pitch. Pick your team by August 14” will run in London and the South from August 1st to 14th and, in a first for the competition, Telegraph Fantasy Football will be available through Sky Interactive.

The Telegraph‘s long running football game invites readers to become the manager of a dream team, struggling to beat other contestants for glory and, ultimately, a big-money prize. This year see the prize fund sit at over £100,000 including a £50,000 first prize.

This year’s managers will also receive a History of Football DVD upon entering the contest, featuring more than 100 minutes of rare archive footage, interviews and classic moments. Entry to the league costs readers £3, and weekly scores can be viewed online at www.fantasyfootball.telegraph.co.uk for an additional fee of £5.

Commenting on this year’s competition, Mark Dixon, marketing director at Telegraph Group Limited, said: “Telegraph Fantasy Football has a hugely loyal following and continues to be one of our most popular promotions. We’re confident that the new initiatives and marketing support this year will grow participation even more.”

Last month saw the Sunday Telegraph extend its football coverage, cashing in on the summer’s feast of football by publishing a special 48-page Euro 2004 magazine with the newspaper. The title, sponsored by British Airways, included contributions from regular football columnists Gary Lineker and Gerard Houllier, who both wrote for the paper during the tournament (see Sunday Telegraph To Cash In On Euro 2004 Football Frenzy).
