TV Awards Proves A Winner For ITV

ITV Logo Last night’s National Television Awards 2005, which saw Eastenders pull off a shock win for most popular soap, helped ITV to win the battle for peak time viewers. The award ceremony peaked at 6.93 million adults during the 9-9.15pm timeslot, with an average audience of 6.53 million adults.

For the duration of the two and a half hour programme ITV averaged a viewing share of 31.68%, peaking at 33.85% for the first fifteen minutes of the broadcast.

Elsewhere BBC1’s decision to run the crossover show Casualty @ Holby City against ITV’s number two soap opera Emmerdale, has barely dented the show’s audience figures. The BBC1 drama attained a viewership of 3.93 million adults with 22% share, compared to 7.4 million adults and a 41.48% share.

Channel 4’s popular US drama serial Lost improved viewing figures on previous week’s, despite strong competition from the last half hour of NTA and BBC1’s News At Ten.During the 10-11pm timeslot Channel 4 had 2.91 million adult viewers, compared to 2.83 million last week
