GCap Promotes Chalmers To Head Of Agency Sales

GCap Media has announced the appointment of Ed Chalmers as its new head of agency sales, holding responsibilities for driving new and innovative solutions for national agencies and their clients.

The move sees Chalmers replace Nick Hewat, who left GCap this summer to take over as Virgin Radio’s sales director following Lee Roberts’ departure from the role last month by mutual agreement (see Sales Director Roberts Leaves Virgin).

Chalmers has been promoted to head up GCap’s agency sales division after spending eleven years with the Capital Radio Group.

Commenting on the decision, Duncan George, GCap Media national managing director said: “This is an important role for GCap Media. Chalmers possesses the right combination of customer focus, trading skills and brand insight to develop a highly dynamic agency sales operation.”

The move comes after GCap saw a number of its high-profile management figures leave the company in the run up to the Capital GWR merger. Among those to have jumped ship are commercial managing director Linda Grant, who had been due to head up the new firm’s single sales house (see Capital And GWR Name Team For Single Sales House), and Mike Hope Milne, Capital Radio’s former commercial content director.

Peter Charlton, national sales director for the local radio group at GWR sales house, Opus, also left his post in the pre-merger run up, taking the role of national sales director at Viacom Outdoor in July (see Viacom Outdoor Raids GWR For Sales Chief).

The merger of Capital Radio Group and GCap was approved by competition watchdogs earlier this year, on the proviso that Capital’s 106 Century FM was disposed of in order to meet competition guidelines. The company completed the station’s sale to rival Chrysalis on the morning of its merger, making the deal for £29.5 million (see GCap Begins Trading As Chrysalis Snaps Up Century).
