Virgin Radio Signs Hazlitt As New CEO

Fru Hazlitt Virgin Radio has signed former Yahoo! UK managing director, Fru Hazlitt, as its new CEO, taking full responsibility for the SMG-owned station, with acting CEO Paul Jackson returning his concentration to programming across the Virgin Radio Network.

Prior to her role at the head of Yahoo!, Hazlitt held positions at Capital Radio Group, Guardian Media Group and Centaur Communications.

The media boss has a high profile in both the media and business communities, having been voted the CBI’s First Woman of Media in June this year.

Commenting on her appointment, Hazlitt said: “I’ve been looking forward to getting started for the past few months. This is a station that is going places, with great success in the recent RAJAR figures, a further £2.2m being invested in the station and a host of talent signed over the last few months. There’s a fantastic team here and I’m proud to be part of it.”

Virgin recently announced the launch of its third digital-only station, Virgin Radio Xtreme, which aims to bring the “best bands and newest releases” to the nation through Sky, DAB digital radio and online (see Virgin To Launch Third Digital Station Next Month).

The broadcaster also extended its online offering this week with the announcement that its second podcast would soon be available, distributing The Tim Lovejoy Show to listeners via the internet (see Virgin Radio To Launch Second Podcast Show).
