Big Name Speakers Line Up For Summer Conferences

People Attending A Conference Some of the UK’s highest-profile media bosses are preparing to address the industry at a series of conferences throughout the summer, designed to address the key issues currently facing the nation’s broadcasting, print and advertising industries.

Next week will see the first high-profile conference of the summer, as Michael Grade and Mark Thompson, chairman and director general of the BBC, address the Westminster Media Forum in response to recent green paper outlining the Corporation’s obligations and requirements under its new remit.

June will see media matters discussed further afield, with the 2005 European Effective Communications Symposium and European Advertising Effectiveness Symposium held between 8th and 10th June in Budapest. Amongst those due to make presentations are Lynne Robinson, research director at the IPA, David Fletcher, head of MediaLab at Mediaedge:cia, Jean-Jacques Vandenheede, managing director of AC Nielsen and Justin Charlton-Jones, managing director of Ipsos-ASI.

July will see Edinburgh play host to the Radio Academy’s annual Radio Festival, taking place in Edinburgh and featuring presentations by Ofcom chief executive, Stephen Carter, RAJAR chief executive, Sally de la Bedoyere and broadcasters Chris Evans and Matthew Bannister.

August will see a return to Edinburgh, but for the television industry, as a host of famous faces from the worlds of entertainment and media descend on the 30th Annual Edinburgh International Television Festival. Amongst those due to address the festival are comedian Ricky Gervais, feminist and media commentator, Germaine Greer, Channel 4 chief executive, Andy Duncan, and numerous channel controllers, including BBC One’s Kevin Lygo, Channel 4’s Roly Keating and BBC Two’s Jane Root.
