Five Poaches BBC’s Controller Of Marketing

Five has announced the appointment of Jane Scott as the channels’ new director of marketing, poaching her from the BBC to drive the channel forward as it continues to expand.

Scott is currently the BBC’s controller of TV Marketing, but will be joining Five in the Spring and become a member of the channel’s executive board.

Commenting on the appointment, Jane Lighting, Five’s chief executive said: “I’m delighted we’ve been able to attract someone of Jane’s calibre to Five. She is one of the most respected marketing professionals working in television today.”

She continued: “It’s a sign of the regard the channel commands within the industry that an executive as able and talented as Jane is keen to work here.”

Scott added: “I am really looking forward to joining Five with so many exciting opportunities ahead. I’ve had a terrific eight years at the BBC, but the offer to be part of an organisation which is at a crucial stage of further development is just tempting.”

Earlier this month RTL Group, parent company of Five, revealed impressive profits for the broadcaster, doubling its pre-tax figure for 2003 to total £18 million in the 12 months to December 2004 (see Five Doubles Profits As Ad Revenue Rises).

The company’s revenues also rose, adding 10.4% year on year to £276 million, although RTL stated that the advertising markets could be unfavourable, remaining cautious for the next 12 months.
