BBC Sees Victory As X Factor Falters

Celebrity Dancers BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing romped to victory on Saturday night, securing victory over ITV’s X Factor with an average adult audience of 8.7 million.

X Factor delivered an average audience of 6.2 million for ITV, although it was no match for the BBC’s semi-final, which notched up a 43.7% viewing share compared with ITV’s 30.7%.

ITV’s Saturday programming continued to look down in the dumps following X Factor, with The Record Of The Year drawing an average of 5.2 million viewers, compared to 6.5 million for BBC One’s National Lottery.

X Factor clawed back some lost ground later in the evening, as its results show drew 6.8 million viewers, slightly ahead of BBC One’s Casualty, with 6.6 million. The results of Strictly Come Dancing followed, however, notching up 8.2 million viewers.

Elsewhere, Channel 4 saw its largest audience with the Christmas Top Ten, drawing 1.3 million viewers, while Five secured 1.9 million on average with CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
