The light-hearted drama staring Martin Clunes drew an average adult audience of 8.1 million, following the latest from the broadcaster’s celebrity campsite, which was watched by 7.7 million.

A second I’m A Celebrity update followed Doc Martin, although audiences had slipped slightly as the evening wore on, with average adult viewers numbering 7.6 million.

Elsewhere, 7.2 million viewers tuned in to a special hour-long episode of Emmerdale, as hardfaced maneater Sadie King, played by Patsy Kensit, comforted programme favoutite Tom in his hour of need.

The one-off extension to Emmerdale succeeded in flooring soap competition from the BBC, as Eastenders drew an average audience of 5.9 million, followed later in the evening by comedy sketch show, Little Britain, drawing 5.8 million.

Meanwhile, ITV’s screening of Madonna documentary, I’m Going To Tell You A Secret, drew a respectable 1.8 million viewers, while Five’s US import, House, attracted 1.2 million.
