Sir Trevor’s Modest Exit Brings Modest Viewers For ITV

Trevor McDonald Sir Trevor McDonald’s modest sign-off from his last news bulletin drew a similarly modest audience last night, with an average of 2.9 million adults tuning in to see the veteran news reader say goodbye, marking the end of an era in television.

The programme, airing at 10:30pm, notched up an audience share of just over 21%, making it easily the most-watched programme in its time-slot, regardless of viewing figures in line with its normal performance.

Elsewhere, ITV saw a strong performance with Doc Martin, drawing 8 million; The Bill, with 5.7 million; and Emmerdale, with 7.6 million.

The BBC saw audiences of 8.3 million for Eastenders, which faced little competition from ITV’s The Tube, while Channel 4 saw the highlight of its evening in Gordon Ramsay’s The F Word, drawing 2.3 million viewers.

Five’s Killer Instinct drew 1.6 million viewers meanwhile, scoring the broadcaster’s largest audience of the evening.
