An announcement is expected this week from Quantum Publishing on the future of trade title, Media Week, following the company’s decision to sell off some of its most lucrative business titles last year.
Quantum, themselves owned by ABN Amro Capital, have made no secret of their desire to sell off their most attractive assets, including Media Week, Press Gazette and The Publican (see Media Press Publisher To Go Under The Hammer).
United Business Media announced a deal to acquire Quantum’s licensing division, including The Publican, for £21m earlier this year, while Media Week and Press Gazette are widely believed to be the next “best buys”.
Last week it was announced that Media Week editor, Tim Burrowes, is to leave the title to launch a new edition of Campaign in the Middle East. The appointment of his successor has yet to be announced.
Amongst those believed to be interested in the purchase of Media Week is business to business specialist, Centaur. Media Week would offer the best fit for Centaur in relation to the rest of its portfolio, which includes Marketing Week and New Media Age. The company is also believed to be keen on expansion, having made few purchases since floating on the AIM index early last year (see Centaur To Float On Junior Share Market Next Week).
In addition to its business to business media titles, Quantum publishes several industry magazines for the home interior, food and drink and medical industries. The company also operates annual awards for the industries it serves, including the British Press Awards.
