ITV’s Saturday Shows Put Channel 4 In The Shade

Soapstar Superstars The finale of ITV’s Soapstar Superstar on Saturday delivered a harsh blow to Channel 4’s Celebrity Big Brother, despite its surprise introduction of TV veteran Jimmy Saville to the famous house.

The all-singing celebrity showdown drew a mammoth 7.5 million adults on average, compared with Big Brother‘s 2.8 million.

ITV also saw success with the launch of Dancing on Ice, another celebrity-focused talent show, which garnered an average adult audience of 8.1 million earlier in the evening, before 5.9 million tuned in for the results show later on.

Sandwiched between ITV’s talent programmes was quiz show stalwart Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, proving the continued value of its format with a respectable average audience of 6.2 million.

BBC One also put in a good performance on Saturday, with 7.3 million watching Casualty before 5.2 million saw paranormal drama Sea of Souls.

Five relied on the tried and tested CSI franchise to provide its highest ratings on Saturday, with a double bill drawing average audiences of 1.8 million and 2.1 million respectively.
