ITV Scores Victory Over Football

ITV secured a ratings victory over BBC One last night, despite the Corporation screening Man City’s failed attempt to tackle West Ham in the FA cup quarter final.

The BBC notched up 5.4 million adult viewers on average with its football coverage, while ITV’s Coronation Street double bill saw 10.1 million and 8.7 million respectively, sandwiching Tonight with Trevor McDonald, which drew 6.1 million.

ITV’s audience began to fall later in the evening, however, as 4.6 million tuned in on average for new drama The Best Man.

Elsewhere, Channel 4 saw its largest audience of the evening with The Games Live, attracting 1.7 million adults on average, while Five’s shock medical documentary The Seven Year Old Surgeon drew 2.4 million in the same time slot.
